How about those Republicans and Democrats?
Phew, DC is just aflutter! The first Speaker in history was voted out by the Congress that voted him in. Best part, he wasn’t voted out by his majority party, the Republicans, but the Democrats, the minority party. Only 8 Reps voted for his ouster along with 208 Dems. Hey you Congressional primary challenging Dems, if there any of you, here’s a free ad,
“He/She voted with the dirty Republican Representative Gaetz! (With the swarmiest pix of Gaetz, the nets filled with them) On election day, Vote for a real Democrat! For America! For democracy!”
The NYT seems both flustered and confused writing, “On Tuesday a small group of Republicans effectively shut down all business in the House when they voted to oust Kevin McCarthy as speaker.” Then, wait for it, ……. “Though 210 of 218 House Republicans supported him. …fewer than a dozen lawmakers from the outer fringes of the Republican Party are holding one of the world’s oldest democracies hostage to their wildest whims.”
Umm, it seems less than a dozen, eight in fact, “outer fringes” Reps are able to hold one of the world’s oldest democracies hostage, only with the help of 208 Democrats. The White House Spokeswoman said on the matter, “President Joe Biden hoped the House would ‘quickly elect’ a new Speaker. ‘The American people deserve leadership that puts the issues affecting their lives front and center.’” Funny stuff — You think she writes that herself, or it’s a whole too highly paid office coming up with such drivel?
The first thing out of this is what Rep in his or her right mind is going to trust the Dems? McCarthy cuts the deal for funding the government with the Dems and next day is unanimously voted out of his position by those very Dems.
But the Dems will argue McCarthy changed the deal terms by taking out the Ukraine funding, even though he did it in a failed attempt to save his own skin. It’s good the Ukraine criminal idiocy is being brought front and center, coming home so to speak. The alliance in Europe is going wobbly, so much so Old Joe had to do a zoom call with such allies saying he “remains confident that Congress will approve military and humanitarian assistance for Ukraine ‘for as long as it takes.’” Whatever the hell that means, till Ukraine’s completely destroyed I guess?
Well, government’s funded for the next 45 days, no need to rush in a new Speaker. I was watching the baseball game when ABC broke in with the news and the correspondent said the House would continue with an “appointed temporary Speaker” — Lord, you think they made that up themselves or were consulted by one of their sources inside the administration or Congress? Anyway, Ukraine is another issue the reeelect Joe Biden people don’t want front and center, though they don’t understand that yet, but such attention is surely best for, as the NYT calls it, “one of the world’s oldest democracies.”
